Many thanks to Rev. Ivor from St. John's and St. Peter's, who joined us to preach and celebrate on Sunday. Rev. Ivor continued in our series on the question of Jesus' identity and authority, looking at his conversations with the religious authorities in Jerusalem. In this reading (Matthew 22: 16-22) we see Jesus answering a tricky question: what is our relationship to the governing authorities on earth?
Rev. Ivor reminded us that although there are governments on earth, and in some ways they are in charge, God has sovereignty and power over them. Even in the case of the powerful Roman Empire of Jesus' time, God is in charge and had a plan for the Roman Empire. In fact, God used the Roman Empire to spread Christianity in the centuries after Jesus. Even in our broken and troubled world today, God is in charge.
We hope you all have good weeks and look forward to seeing you at 10.30am on Sunday.
